Wilfrid Frances Whiting

1937 ~ 2007

Wilf was born at home near Paradise Hills, Saskatchewan on March 21st, 1927.
He was raised on the farm with his 10 siblings. When he left he went on a journey working in the oil patch and developed his skills and knowledge to become a Tool Push. He was a foreman on the WAC Bennett Dam, set up a small business supplying firewood and garden tractor work, a Heavy Equipment operator, truck driver and most recently worked for Taylor Dunnage. Wilf was a hard worker and he was at his best when he was busy, you could see this because he was happy.

He enjoyed helping people, and would neglect his own priorities to help others. Everyone has a special time of the year they enjoy, and his was looking forward to the hunting season, packing up the truck & trailer, and most importantly not forgetting his cook, Gladys.

Wilf’s favourite sport was watching hockey, whether it was on TV or going to the local arena to cheer on his favourite teams his grandsons played on. He seldom missed one of their games. He also had some musical talents that a lot of people were not aware of. But his children have fond memories of him playing the harmonica and trying to teach them to play.

Wilf loved animals and enjoyed spending time with his horses and dogs. There was never a dull moment; he always had a story to tell.

Wilf was married to Margaret Myers for 18 years, they had three children; Rena, Lyle & Carrie. You could tell he loved his children very much by the way he spoke of them, he was very proud of them and their accomplishments.

He had seven grandchildren and on great grand child from his first marriage and inherited 3 step children – Vernon, Venessa and Vance and five grandchildren with his second marriage of 16 years to Gladys Brown (Durney).

During the later years of his life Wilf spent a lot of time raising his grandson Tyrell, snowmobiling, triking, hockey, hunting and trying to get Tyrell to stay in school and leave the girls alone.

Wilf did not like to complicate things, he liked to keep things simple, if he had something to say, he just said it the way he seen it. There was no beating around the bush. If people were offended by his mannerism, then they did not really know who he was, because that was not his intention. He liked to get along with everyone, but was not going to agree with something that he did not believe in.

Wilf passed away at the Fort St. John Hospital on November 8, 2007 at the age of 70 years. A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 at 4:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Pastor Bill Evans officiated. Interment will be at a later date.
